Feeling overwhelmed by the endless to-do list that comes with running a subscription box business? You’re not alone. Trust me. But that doesn’t mean you have to stay stuck in the chaos. In this episode of The Launch Your Box Podcast, we’re diving into 4 productivity hacks that will help subscription box owners save time, reduce stress, and grow their businesses more efficiently.
1. Avoid Task Switching
Multi-tasking is a productivity killer! Our brains simply aren’t wired to focus on multiple things at the same time.
Studies show every time you switch between tasks, it takes your brain time to refocus. This “context switching” can cost you up to 40% of your productive time. 40%!
Set boundaries to allow you to focus on one task at a time.
2. Batch Your Work
Batching work reduces brain load by allowing your brain to stay focused on similar tasks. If you feel mentally exhausted at the end of the day, chances are your brain is working overtime, shifting between all the different tasks you have to complete during the day.
Focusing on a single task allows your brain to get into a flow. This improves concentration and efficiency.
We don’t pack one box at a time. We streamline the process by packing in batches. That same principle applies to other tasks in your business, including:
- Curating boxes
- Designing t-shirts
- Creating & scheduling social media posts
- Writing & scheduling emails
- Photographing products
3. Use Time Blocking
Time blocking is all about intentionally planning your day or week, dedicating specific blocks of time to specific tasks (hello, batching work).
Subscription box owners might:
- Block Monday mornings for content creation
- Block Tuesday afternoons for box curation and product sourcing
- Block Thursdays for financial tasks
Add these blocks to your calendar and treat them like appointments! Consider using a timer (I do) to stay focused and keep you from getting off track.
4. Use Project Management Tools
Project Management tools like Asana, Trello, and others can help you keep track of tasks, deadlines, and team responsibilities. Trust me, they work a lot better than writing notes in multiple notebooks and on sticky notes!
Trello works great for subscription box planning. Create lists for stages including:
- Product sourcing
- Box curation
- Marketing
- Shipping
Asana is our team’s go-to for larger initiatives like launches or quarterly initiatives. Asana is designed to handle complex projects with multiple interdependent tasks. In other words, it handles projects that need a lot of things completed by a lot of people!
Each has its pros and cons. You can decide which works best for your time or, like we do, use both. If you’re not using a project management tool yet, start small. Choose one simple task and start managing it in Trello or Asana. You’ll be surprised at the difference it makes. Game changer!
